When and where does Company perform?
Company does up to five performances during the school year, including Riverfest, Love Lights a Tree, Nutcracker, recital, and a competition every other year. Additional shows at area libraries, community centers, and other places are also possible performance opportunities that vary from year to year. The dancers learn the dances from the teachers and practice them in class before they perform.
What are the benefits of being in Company?
Company teaches the principles of teamwork and good technique through a wide variety of classes such as ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, and pointe. Company is also a great way to have fun and make lots of close friends!
What are the requirements to be in Company?
Pre-Company minimum requirements include mandatory attendance to one ballet class per week and one other class during the school year, as well as attendance at ADA’s Summer Intensive. We recommend jazz as their second discipline and tap as the third. Then, if the dancer is interested in taking four classes, she can add lyrical as the fourth discipline.
Apprentice, Junior, and Senior Company minimum requirements include mandatory attendance to two ballet classes per week during the school year and attendance at ADA’s Summer Intensive. Jazz, hip-hop, tap, lyrical, and pointe are the other disciplines offered to these companies.
All Company members are required to follow a dress code and wear hair in a tight, secured bun.
What’s the catch?
It is both an honor and a privilege to be in Company, but with this status comes responsibility. Although being in Company requires a focused commitment from both dancer and parent(s), many benefits will be acquired through the process. Dancers learn dedication to a respected art form, discipline and focus that carries from dance into their regular lives, and determination that will bring a deep, inner satisfaction through setting and achieving goals.
